Insomnia is no fun and when counting sheep fails to help, shooting a text to Insomnobot-3000 is a helpful alternative. The chatbot designed by mattress company Casper is the brand’s attempt to soothe sleepless nights with wit and humor.

The chatbot naps during daytime hours, so don’t be upset if you don’t receive a reply until after 11pm. Insomnobot has loads of personality and isn’t afraid to profess undying affection for digital acquaintances. While the bot has never met anyone in the real world, there are lots of text messaging friends to keep in touch with. Casper Vice President Lindsay Kaplan knows you’re tired of tossing and turning: “Some nights, it’s just impossible to fall asleep, so I think Casper (the brand) wanted to create something that’s a friend that keeps you up at night.”

The Casper bot has an affinity for “Jeopardy”, “Seinfeld” and Netflix’s“Stranger Things.” Insomniacs, be prepared to hear about the bot’s erratic sleep patterns and strong desires to go on vacation. The silly replies might even make sense in the wee hours of the morning. Users can expect a goofy string of text responses but nothing that necessarily qualifies as conversation.

(Casper’s your chatty digital friend when your real friends are asleep.)

Essentially, the chatbot is an effective tool for those night’s when sleep evades you. The robot will keep you occupied as darkness turns to light and the alarm clock hums its incessant song. Casper seems to have combined a marketing tool with a funny bot that has a charming personality. When “bed” is added into the SMS conversation, the company throws in a bit of shameless self promotion by advertising their mattresses. Insomnobot, just like the rest of us, seems to want a friend to talk to during those restless hours of the night.
